The purpose of Education

I like the quote above. What's better? An open mind or one which is rigid and inflexible. I would aim to have an open mind. I have been researching self directed learning, research and related subjects for quite a few years now. When I was growing up, the internet and social media did not exist. I did not know that home education was legal during my high school years. I grew up in the UK. I had moved to the USA for 16 plus years too. I am back in the UK at present. I am impressed with the UK Home Education regulations. They are very flexible. I have had discussions with people, regarding home education. These people were educated through traditional brick and mortar schools. It was no point in me having these discussions as these people were not open to hearing about the benefits of home education. It's ok. I do not need validation. My research has provided me with the truth I need. One of the arguments for traditional schools is the socialization factor. The detractors d...

DIY-U and Academic Freedom

Here is a link to an article which provides more info on Academic Freedom. https://www.britannica.com/topic/academic-freedom I found out about the above through my on going research.  Over the years I have collected hundreds of research articles. These articles have been stored in my ever expanding knowledge base. I use external hard drives, usb flash drives and even dvds to store the data onto. I have printed out some of these articles. I prefer, however, to study the articles via my PC's and storage devices as this saves trees. The aim of DIY-U is to promote Do it Yourself Education and Self Directed Learning , plus of course, research. If you look up, Free Skools - This is the correct spelling by the way, you will see that in Free Skools, students can be teachers too. As DIY-U is highly creative in essence, I / we, incorporate elements from various sources. We are not limited by dogma. Here is a Youtube video on Academic Freedom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

A DIY-U extracurricular activity, hobby: Frisee That Much

As you are aware, most universities encourage students to participate in extra curricular activities or to take up hobbies etc. This is true with DIY-U as well. It's not healthy for students to study all of the time and to not balance things with other activities. I have recently gotten back into Frisbee and flying disc throwing. I also like to play Nerf Howler ball. I will explore other throwing sports as well. Do you like the photo above? I will be getting this ultimate flying disc in the near future. If you're interested in getting your own custom designed Frisbee, I would suggest using the company above. Here's a link to a post on Frisee That Much. It's from my Ato Consulting Dot com wordpress blog/site. In the link, you will find the copyrighted PDF on Frisee That Much, plus links to 3 quick videos I had shot where I am playing the game. https://atoconsultingdotcom.com/2019/09/15/frisee-that-much-the-new-frisbee-game-i-have-created/ If you prefer to s...

Research connections with regulations

Here is a link to a PDF file I had written up on the connections I had made with research and regulations. I had analyzed secondary data in order to come up with some unique ideas relating to regulations etc. You are welcome to share and to download the PDF. I hope that the PDF file triggers new ideas for you. If you read about inventions, you will see that new inventions are basically improvements and / or modifications on existing ideas. Or they can be combinations of ideas. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JqQiz7LGsHGNDJ3NNDRwbFp8EoE3PiBl/view?usp=sharing

DIY-U and the DIY Maker Movement

Two of the elements which make up DIY-U are: the DIY maker movement and DIY education. There are other elements in DIY-U. However, for now I will be focusing on the DIY maker movement. We are living in an age where new ideas can spread like wildfire, thanks to the web and technology in general. Social media is included as one of the platforms to help to share these ideas through. Projects can be showcased through Facebook for example. Groups dedicated to these projects can also be created. These actions can lead to new improvements being made to the projects. Youtube is another platform which should be explored. Youtube videos and Facebook posts can go viral with just a few clicks of the keyboard. Here is a link to a post from my Ato Consulting Dot com site. It covers the DIY maker movement topic. The post includes a pdf on the diy maker movement. https://atoconsultingdotcom.com/2019/05/14/the-diy-movement-and-ato-consulting-dot-com/

DIY-U and Home Schooling

DIY-U is highly creative in essence . I see myself as a teacher and a home schooling student as well. The lines are blurred when it comes to learning and teaching at DIY-U. I have and I still am conducting research into home schooling.  I wish I had been home schooled. When I was growing up, the world wide web had not been created. Home education as it is known in the UK, was available when I was high school student. However, I did not even know about this at the time. I have placed an underline in two segments of the above. Here's why. I will be adding to the fluid but ever expanding DIY-U body of knowledge through research. This body of knowledge will not be rigid and set in stone. It is not bound by dogma either. Here is a link to a post I had written up on Home Schooling. You will find a link to a PDF I had created on this topic. You're welcome to share the PDF. https://wotri.org/2019/04/15/way-of-the-remote-influencer-and-home-schooling/

DIY-U unincorporated association constitution

The idea for DIY-U came about through the basic research projects I am undertaking via Project The Remote Influencer - PTRI. I have written an updated constitution for PTRI. This constitution applies to DIY-U as well, seeing as DIY-U is one of the projects which falls under the PTRI umbrella . The constitution is in PDF format. Most pc's come with Adobe reader or some other program which can be used to open PDF files with. If you don't have such a program, you can download Adobe reader for free. It's easy to find this program via an internet search. The constitution can change over the course of time. Once the DIY-U group starts growing, the group members and I can modify the constitution as deemed appropriate and/or necessary. Here's a link to my Project The Remote Influencer - PTRI blog. The post includes a link to the PDF constitution. http://www.projecttheremoteinfluencer.org/2019/03/project-remote-influencer-ptri.html
